Device Controls

Available Roles: Host, Participant Platforms: Web, Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android Reviewed: 2026-03-14

Use device controls to confirm the correct microphone, camera, and output path before you join and whenever your setup changes during the call. Device controls are the first place to look when someone says they cannot hear you, cannot see you, or hears the wrong output route.

Device selection, output routing, and audio enhancement settings should be reviewed together whenever a user's setup changes.

  • Test the microphone and confirm the camera preview in the lobby.
  • Choose the correct speaker or headset before entering the meeting so the first few minutes are not wasted on setup.
  • Re-select the intended hardware if your OS recently switched devices automatically.
  • Use quick pickers for fast microphone or camera changes.
  • Open full settings when you need audio tests, enhancement controls, or output routing.
  • Re-test after docking, undocking, plugging in USB gear, or switching Bluetooth headsets.
  • Prefer explicit device selection over system defaults on shared or rapidly changing hardware.
  • Use headphones in noisy or echo-prone environments.
  • Rejoin only as a last resort after large device changes; start by re-selecting the device in settings.
  • Pick the device manually in Hyper instead of relying on OS default switching.
  • Disconnect unused Bluetooth headsets or webcams that expose competing microphones.
  • Re-open settings after docking or waking from sleep because device order can change.

I can hear the meeting but nobody hears me

  • Check mute state first, then microphone selection.
  • Review OS privacy permissions if the microphone list looks correct but input stays flat.
  • Test with a simpler wired device to isolate Bluetooth routing issues.
